Clinical Consultation for Therapists

Hi, I’m Bex and I’m honoured that you are considering inviting me into your journey towards self inquiry, compassion and belonging.

First, I’d like to respectfully acknowledge that I live and practice on the unceded territory and ancestral lands of the Syilx Peoples. Alongside this recognition, I practice in a way that not only acknowledges but also actively works to mitigate intergenerational and intersectional inequities through advocacy and community engagement. This work is continuous and reflexive.

I believe healing is possible when we are able to be curious about, explore, learn from our triggers and emotional pain without shame and self-judgement. Through the Compassionate Inquiry lens, I have learned that trauma “shapes our lives. It shapes the way we live, the way we love and the way we make sense of the world. It is the root of our deepest wounds.” Essentially, trauma manifests as a disconnect from the self, and oftentimes, from our gut feelings and innate inner wisdom. That means that my work is in assisting and guiding you back to your authentic and whole selves. Our pain and struggle often requires an attuned witness to hold a space of genuine warmth and nurturance and THAT is the backbone of my professional philosophy. In addition to these attributes, my practice modalities and clinical approaches are evidence-based and ethically sound. I believe, deeply, in the power of somatic, body-based approaches and modalities.

Areas of Focus: Trauma (PTSD/CPTSD); Adverse Childhood Experiences; Anxiety; Depression; Strengths; Resilience; Mindfulness; Grief; Forgiveness; Shame; Emotional regulation; Communication; Self compassion; Addiction; Radical acceptance.

Approaches: EMDR; Relational Psychodynamic; Compassionate Inquiry; Somatic Experiencing; CBT/DBT; ACT

In my practice, I often draw from the works of: Gabor Mate; Daniel J. Siegel; Peter A. Levine; Bessel van der Kolk; Brene Brown; Kristin Neff; Joe DIspenza; Russell Kennedy; Pema Chodron; A.H. Almaas; Tara Brach, Emma McAdam; Don Miguel Ruiz; Eckhart Tolle; Beck Institute; Richard Schwartz; Yolanda Renteria; Francine Shapiro; Andrew Huberman; Alexis Florentina Borja; Judith Herman; Daniel Goleman; Mel Robbins; Andrew Leeds; Brianna Wiest; Diego Perez (Yung Pueblo); and, Diane Poole Heller.

I hold a Master’s Degree in clinical Social Work, and am a Registered Social Worker with the British Columbia College of Social Workers. I have completed trauma-focused certificate programs in Compassionate Inquiry (240hr) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Basic. Currently, I am enrolled in Peter Levine’s (Ph.D) body-oriented therapeutic model, Somatic Experiencing, Intermediate Level. I am currently a volunteer for Multidisciplinary Association of Psychedelics Canada (MAPS Canada Podcast ‘21).

As Peter Levine, author of, Waking the Tiger: Healing Trauma, famously said, “I have come to the conclusion that human beings are born with an innate capacity to triumph over trauma. I believe not only that trauma is curable, but that the healing process can be a catalyst for profound awakening—a portal opening to emotional and genuine spiritual transformation.” It’s almost always the case that whatever has wounded you will also be instrumental in your healing. I am here to offer you a safely guided exploration of your emotional suffering. We are not meant to do this deep inner work alone and I would be honoured to walk alongside you.

*Please note: I do not offer Couples/Marriage Counselling and only work with adult populations.

*80min and 210min (half-day intensives) sessions only.

Hi, I’m Janice. I know that it can take a lot of courage to look into counseling so I am honoured that you may be inviting me to be part of your healing journey.

From a young age, I can recall being drawn to and wanting to help people who were struggling. Over time, I have come to discover and now deeply believe that everyone, no matter what they have navigated in their lives, has an incredible resiliency, inner wisdom and innate capacity to heal and live a life that is more peaceful and meaningful. This healing can be blocked by trauma and life stressors getting stuck in our bodies, which can prevent us from seeing our wisdom, truth and beauty. My approach to counselling is to start where you are. In a heart-centred, gentle, emotionally safe, trauma-sensitive and supportive way, we will explore together to help you see and access your healing, wisdom and growth.

I am a Registered Social Worker and EMDR Therapist. I completed my Master of Social Work degree from Wilfrid Laurier University in Ontario and my EMDR Basic Training with Sue Genest. I am currently enrolled in Peter Levine’s Somatic Experiencing approach (2024-2026) and am constantly and humbly learning everyday as a mom of 2 to a tween daughter and a teenage son. Parenting and watching them grow, unfold and become, has been the greatest and hardest training that I have had to date!

I have been practicing social work for 20+ years with a variety of populations and have witnessed and supported many individuals living with emotional pain, attachment wounds, chronic stress, burnout, anxiety, depression, infertility, loneliness, isolation, shame, guilt, loss, grief, fear, frustration, sense of not belonging, losses of identity, lack of self-compassion and purpose. It is my deepest privilege to support you on your healing path, to witness and help you to see your innate beauty and wisdom, reclaim your authentic self and find more peace and meaning in your life.

When I’m not in the counseling room, you might find me listening to and making music, camping and being in nature and hanging out with my family, including our crazy and sweet dog!

I have always enjoyed connecting with and learning from others; this has driven my passion for mental health support for many years. Before completing my Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work and during my undergraduate studies in Psychology, I worked with my local rural fire department as a paid-on-call firefighter for nearly 8 years. I was consistently humbled throughout my experiences by the resilience and camaraderie engrained in first responder culture. I believe in the importance of having clinicians who ‘get what we do’, ultimately leading me to combine two of my passions (firefighting & mental health) and become one.

Although a career as a first responder can be extremely rewarding, it can also be exhausting and overwhelming. I aim to create a safe, inclusive and understanding environment where you can be your authentic self, and all parts of you are welcomed.

I am a registered EMA-FR and remain actively engaged with my department, allowing me to continue learning and understanding first responder service. My approach is client-centred, strength-based, collaborative and trauma-informed. I lean on the most up-to-date research specific to first responders’ mental health, as well as the voices of clients and fellow first responders to inform my practice. My specialties include trauma treatment (PTSD, ASD, C-PTSD), Mood disorders (Anxiety & Depression), Identity & Addiction issues, Individual & Organizational stress and Burnout.

Modalities: EMDR, Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Cognitive Processing & Restructuring, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
